2006 Bob Hope Classic Goes High Tech With Allied Telesyn
Allied Telesyn and Cove Electric Deliver IP Triple Play Solution
(San Jose, CA) - When the first round of the annual Bob Hope Classic Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicks off this week, golfers, sponsors and spectators will enjoy one of the most technologically advanced courses in the world. Following a competitive evaluation of leading-edge network manufacturers by the tournament's telecom consultants Fiber Channels, Allied Telesyn in partnership with Palm Desert-based Cove Electric was selected to deploy an IP Triple Play solution for the Classic's newly constructed flagship course - the Classic Club. Allied Telesyn is a global provider of secure Ethernet/IP access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks over copper and fiber infrastructure.
Fiber Channel's project manager, Joseph DePetro, stated, "the selection of Allied Telesyn was based on their offering the most cost-effective, easily deployable, flexible solution for our purposes. It went in on-time, has lived up to all of its expectations, and has been rock solid since we turned it on."
The state of the art installation enables voice, video and data communication across the entire course. The 46-year-old tournament now offers on-demand access for the scoreboard, Shot Link, weather center, media center, network TV broadcast center, Bob Hope Club, skyboxes, players lounge, and sponsor and merchandise booths. Permanent fiber optic cabling was installed for the new course, and through the use of Allied Telesyn's award-winning MiniMAP 9100s the Classic Club has the flexibility to meet new configurations options for each tournament. An industry first, the iMAP integrated Multiservice Access Platform is the platform of choice for most IP Triple Play deployments because of its ability to connect multiple services (voice, video and data) at speeds from POTs (plain old telephones) to 10G Ethernet.
Serving California, Nevada and Arizona since 1976, Cove Electric Inc. partnered with Allied Telesyn to provide IP Triple Play to the Classic Club. Comments Simon Bojkovsky, vice president of Cove Electric, "Allied Telesyn's IP Triple Play networking gives the Classic Club advanced voice, data and video capabilities unmatched by most modern courses. The iMAP, an Allied Telesyn innovation, is a robust platform that eliminates the need for expensive and time consuming temporary installations for each tournament."
In previous years of the Bob Hope Classic, access to data, voice and video networking was limited. In order to create even basic communication for the tournament, copper cabling was brought in each year and temporarily placed. With the new solution, permanent IP Triple Play access is guaranteed across the entire course.
At this year's tournament, Allied Telesyn will host a business center and showcase a demonstration of its IP Triple Play solution near the 18th green. Aside from providing phone, fax, Internet and email access, the display center will highlight the benefits and capabilities of voice, live video, video on demand, and high-speed data transfer over an Allied Telesyn network.
As part of the overall solution, Allied Telesyn and Cove Electric installed an Ethernet protected switch ring (EPSR) using Allied Telesyn's iMAP 9700 and MiniMAP 9100 multiservice access platforms, and AT-9924 layer-3 switches. The RUS-accepted iMAP is a NEBS-certified, environmentally-hardened access solution that delivers carrier-class, next-generation, and traditional telco services over IP. The iMAP accommodates both fiber and copper-based deployments from a single platform. Ideal for new access deployments and upgrades, the iMAP features a modular chassis design that simultaneously supports different applications from IP access, Ethernet transport, and network aggregation.
