What they're saying about George Lopez becoming host of the Bob Hope Classic
PETER JACOBSEN (1990 Bob Hope Classic champion): "I'm a big believer that having celebrities' names involved helps promote not only golf, but the lifestyle associated with golf. Bob Hope and Bing Crosby were the forerunners of this type of event and Glen Campbell, Andy Williams and Jackie Gleason, people like that, were part of events that became my favorite events to play. "I felt it was most important to have a celebrity host the Bob Hope, and George is going to bring exactly what the Bob Hope needs. He's just so likable. I've never seen George have a bad day on or off the golf course. He is fantastic to be with. "It's a huge shot in the arm to the Bob Hope. Now that George is there, if my schedule permits, I really hope to come back."
JUSTIN LEONARD (2005 Bob Hope Classic champion and 1997 British Open champion): "George will be great for the event. He's going to bring a lot of young Hollywood in to the event... He's a heck of a golfer and he's not very serious about it. That's the best combination you can have."
CHAD CAMPBELL (2006 Bob Hope Classic champion): "He's going to be great. So many people come and watch him play golf. . . I enjoyed playing with him. It's fun. He gets involved with the gallery and he gets everyone riled up. But he also knows that it's our job, so he knows when itÕs time to entertain and when it's time to pull back and let us play."
MIKE WEIR (2003 Bob Hope Classic and 2003 Masters champion): "I think it's great for the tournament. Obviously, Mr. Hope was such a big part of the event for years and to have someone like George come in and carry on the tradition of celebrity fun with this event is huge.
George is a blast. What you see is what you get. He's fun both on and off the course and I can't wait to play with him again. George loves the game, he loves golf. He respects the game and he's someone who has a lot of fun with the game."
JASON GORE: "I got to know George from playing at the Hope, and it's wonderful to see him taking this role. When you have someone devoted to the game like George is, it's wonderful. He's someone in the vein of Bob Hope, an ambassador for golf."
