DALY, LANGER, O'MEARA AMONG SPONSOR'S EXEMPTIONS FOR 48th
BOB HOPE CLASSIC HOSTED BY GEORGE LOPEZ, JAN. 16-21
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Two-time major winners John Daly, Bernhard Langer and Mark O'Meara have been awarded sponsor's exemptions for the 48th Bob Hope Classic Hosted by George Lopez, Jan. 16-21, 2007. Other sponsor's exemptions were issued to Tommy Armour III, Brent Geiberger and Anthony Kim.
Two-time Classic winner John Cook and other past champions Joe Durant, Keith Fergus, Donnie Hammond, Justin Leonard and Kenny Perry are among the early professional entries. Joining the past Classic champions are the following tournament winners from the 2006 PGA TOUR: Eric Axley, J.B. Holmes, Will MacKenzie, Troy Matteson, Carl Pettersson, John Senden, Kirk Triplett and Dean Wilson. Durant also was a winner in 2006. Chad Campbell is defending champion. Two sons of former champions also are entered, Kevin Stadler (son of 1980 champion Craig) and Bill Haas (son of 1988 winner Jay). Other entries include Paul Azinger and Ian Poulter.
Early celebrity participants for the 2007 Classic include: Anthony Anderson, Yogi Berra, Michael Bolton, Glen Campbell, Roger Clemens, Alice Cooper, Carson Daly, Oscar de la Hoya, Tom Dreesen, Mike Eruzione, Andy Garcia, Joe Kernan, Huey Lewis, Lopez, Cheech Marin, Ed Marinaro, Craig T. Nelson, Maury Povich, Ray Romano, Kurt Russell, Boris Said and Sterling Sharpe.
The celebrity field's schedule is as follows: Wednesday, Jan. 17, Bermuda Dunes Country Club; Thursday, Jan. 18, La Quinta Country Club; Friday, Jan. 19, Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST; Saturday, Jan. 20, Classic Club. All five days of The Classic will be televised for the first time on The Golf Channel. At stake is a purse of $5 million, $900,000 to the winner.
